Though his days on the football field at Heidelberg never developed, Bill made sure that those dreams were realized by many 'Berg athletes to follow.

A member of the "H' Association since 1957, Bill has become one of the athletics strongest voices at Heidelberg. He served the college for 28 years progressing through the development office, culminating with 10 years as vice president of development. He retired in 1994 and is presently vice president emeritus of development at the institution.

Every athlete on Heidelberg's campus knew the face of Bill and his wife Norma (Fant, '54) through the years. The Goodwins had a streak of 26 straight years without missing a home game and only missed four games overall in 29 years.

They also supported the other programs at Heidelberg including the track program. Much of the credit for the current all-weather track can be attributed to Bill, who raised the funds in 30 days.

Following graduation from Dover High School, Bill enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He joined Heidelberg after his duty and became a member of the football team. Unfortunately, the Korean Conflict interrupted his plans and he was ordered to return to the Marines for an "indefinite period of time."

He returned to the 'Berg and once again joined the football team, but this time Father Time was not on Bill's side. He lettered his freshman season but injuries limited his contribution to the team the remainder of his career.

Bill and Norma have two grown children and four grandchildren and still reside in Tiffin.
