Monica Scott-Short makes history today in becoming the first female athlete at Heidelberg College to enter the Hall of Fame. It was apparent from the start that this gifted athlete would someday reach such a goal.

Currently residing in Orrville and working as an administrative assistant to the director of purchasing at Howington Northern, Inc., in Canton, Ohio. Monica left her mark in track and volleyball for the Student Princes. During her four-year track career at Heidelberg, she earned four letters.

Her talents were also apparent on the volleyball court where she earned two letters for the Student Princes and was named the Most Valuable Player during her freshman season. Heidelberg recognized her contributions to athletics by naming an invitational the "Heidelberg/Monica Scott Track Invitational."

Before coming to Heidelberg she displayed her talents at Xenia High School, running on two spring relay squads that qualified for the Class AAA state meet. She also placed fifth in the state high jump with a leap of 5'5".

Her track coach at Xenia, Norman Pavlovic, lauded Monica when he noted, "As far as an all-around athlete, she was one of the better ones from here." While in high school, she earned numerous individual awards in basketball, receiving three varsity letters in three different sports: volleyball, basketball, and track.

A reporter once wrote, "On the track, Scott changed events more than she changed majors." She was Heidelberg's most valuable athlete in volleyball as a freshman, as well as track she qualified for nationals in high jump and long jump.

Again she was named the MVP during her sophomore track season and again qualified for the nationals in the high jump and long jump and earned All-American honors in the long jump.

That same year she was the OAC high jump, long jump, and triple jump champion and most valuable field athlete in the conference. Her senior year found a fourth straight MVP award as well as the All-American tag in the long jump while qualifying for the nationals in the high jump and long jump.

She won the OAC high jump, long jump, and triple jump outdoors while taking conference crowns in the long jump and triple jump indoors. Monica was All-OAC indoor and outdoor in all three events while sweeping the indoor and outdoor most valuable field athlete award in the OAC.

"Because she's so talented, she could compete in every even and probably place," said her Heidelberg coach, Karen Boyle. Truly one of the great athletes in Heidelberg College history is Monica Scott-Short.
