He was selected for All-Ohio honors his junior year and the 165-pound guard was named All-Ohio Conference his senior year by Associated Press and United Press International, as well as the Ohio Conference coaches, the only Heidelberg player so honored.

His accomplishments were not limited to the gridiron as he was just as impressive in the classroom and was elected president of the Inter-Society Council and the Education Club. The vice-president of his class, Honey received a bachelor of science degree and was awarded the Allen K. Zartman prize in biology.

Following graduation at Heidelberg College he began a career in coaching as a teacher of science and also served as an assistant football and basketball coach and head baseball coach at Bucyrus High School.

Following the war he returned to Youngstown to teach and coach while earning his master's degree in education at Kent State University. He was named assistant principal at Youngstown East in 1951 and principal of his high school alma materin 1956, a position he held for 14 years.

Honey was a three-sport letter winner and captain of the football and basketball teams his senior year in high school. In recognition of his contributions to the school as an athlete and educator, he was selected to the first class to be inducted into the East High School Hall of Fame.

He was also elected to the Northeastern Ohio Athletic Board of Control of the Ohio High School Athletic Association, a position he held for 10 years. He also served a term on the state Athletic Board of Control.

In 1973 he retired and drew praise from the Ohio Senate for his many contributions made to education, to interscholastic athletics and to the development of young men and women during his 33 year association with the Youngstown Public Schools.
