Heidelberg Athletics Hall of Fame
Calvin Dilworth originally hails from Pittsburgh, Pa., but currently resides in Southfield, Mich. While attending Heidelberg, Dilworth was involved with the football and basketball teams.
Dilworth was a two-sport standout beginning on the first day he stepped onto campus his freshman year. He lettered in both football and basketball as a freshman. On the hardwood, in his freshman campaign, Dilworth set the then Seiberling Gymnasium scoring record at 31 points, including 27 points in one half.
On the gridiron for Heidelberg, Dilworth helped to pave the way for a 31-2-2 record under the guidance of Paul Hoernemann from 1953-1956. Dilworth was part of the Berg's perfect 9-0 season in 1955 and Heidelberg's Ohio Athletic Conference Championship teams in 1954 and 1956.
Upon graduation from Heidelberg in 1957, Dilworth played in the Continental Football League with the league champion Massillon Tiger Town All-Stars. He also had a brief stint with the Harlem Globetrotters before becoming the general manager of the Harlem Hobos for eight years before relocating to Detroit, Mich. He is responsible for forming the first senior women's basketball team to represent the state of Michigan in the National Senior Olympics, earning a National Championship in 2001.
In 1987, Dilworth retired from Wayne State University where he served as facility manager and Director of Community & Special Projects and also as the assistant basketball coach for both men and women. After retirement he began his second career with the city of Detroit as founder and director of the Masters Sports Program, which provides sports and recreation activities for men and women age 50 and older.
This fall, Dilworth has also been selected for induction into the Huntsman World Senior Games Hall of Fame for his involvement as an athlete, volunteer and a pioneer with the Huntsman World Senior Games.
Dilworth is the proud father of two children, Jana and the late Dwayne Dilworth.
