Heidelberg Athletics Hall of Fame
If there was one person who unselfishly gave of his time and resources for the benefit and enrichment of Heidelberg College's athletic program it would be Charles Dedrick.
A Seneca County resident all his life, Dedrick was one who devoted a great share of his free time helping Heidelberg students and especially athletes.
He would donate gasoline to help a student drive home for a visit. It was rare that the Dedrick family didn't have a student guest at their dining table.
The Owner and operator of a service at the corner of Market and Perry streets for 35 years, "Charlie" (as he was affectionately known by students and faculty alike) retired in 1967. He died July 1, 1978.
A 1930 graduate of Columbian High School, Dedrick served three terms as first ward councilman. He was elected mayor of Tiffin in 1952.
He served as president of the Tiffin Downtown Coaches Association, Tiffin Chamber of Commerce, and Lions Club. An honorary member of the Heidelberg H Association and an officer of its Booster Club, Dedrick was a charter member of the Hilltoppers Club.
