Heidelberg Athletics Hall of Fame
Brett Freshour earns his way into the Hall of Fame after a spectacular career as a basketball player at Heidelberg College. He was a four-year starter for the Student Princes.
After high school, Freshour decided to sit out one year and work before continuing his education at Heidelberg. During this time he played with the Pabst Royals Industrial basketball team composed of mostly college graduates who played division I, II, and III basketball. The Royals won the state championship and finished with a 63-0 record. During that season, Freshour learned a lot about how to play the game of basketball, preparing him for a sensational career with the Student Princes.
Freshour had an immediate impact on the basketball court breaking the career assist record midway through his sophomore season. During his junior and senior seasons Freshour served as the team's co-captain. He is currently Heidelberg's career assist leader with 535. During his four-year tenure with The Berg, Freshour averaged a school record 5.3 assist per game. He also set the single game assist record when he dished out 19 against Otterbein in 1981. Freshour also scored 1,243 points in his career, which is ninth on Heidelberg's all time scoring list.
Since graduating, Freshour has worked in college admissions for institutions that include Heidelberg College, Christian Brothers University, North Carolina Wesleyan, and La Roche College and he is currently the dean of enrollment at Walsh University.
Brett Freshour married Linda Justice in July of 1989, and they have been happily married for 15 years. Brett and Linda now have two little girls, Katie, who is 12, and Taylor, who is 8. The Freshour family currently they resides in North Canton, Ohio.
