Heidelberg Athletics Hall of Fame
The 1948 football team created much of the tradition that can be contributed to 'Berg football today posting the second undefeated season in school history while rolling to a 9-0 mark. It was the second OAC title in school history and became the first of legendary coach Paul Hoernemann's career.
The offense accounted for 299 points, while a stingy defense limited opponents to only 26 points all season. Offensively, the team outscored every other Ohio team that season. The offense rivaled today's most potent attack, which averaged 41 points per game in 2001, by scoring more than 30 points in four games. Heidelberg set the high-water mark with 69 points against Rio Grande. The defense was outstanding throughout the season. No team scored more than eight points against The 'Berg.
The loyalty of the team has been seen through their continued support of the college and their enthusiasm for Heidelberg athletics.
