Heidelberg Athletics Hall of Fame
A three-sport athlete at Heidelberg, James Lambert was regarded as a tough, aggressive quarterback who was instrumental in a success of the 1951-1953 squads.
Currently residing in Antioch, Tennessee, a suburb of Nashville, the 1954 graduate earned three letters each, in football, baseball, and basketball.
Lambert, a member of the Excelsior's Men's Society, earned the Sayger Award his senior year.
The co-captain his senior year, he guided one team to the Ohio Conference Championship and was named first team All-Ohio by International News Service and UPI.
Lambert was selected first team All-Ohio Conference and was voted MVP by the Columbus Dispatch.
In basketball he was second team All-OAC and was selected to the All-Opponent Team by Ohio Wesleyan University. A pitcher for the baseball squad at Heidelberg, he was 14-5 on the mound.
Following graduation, Lambert played professional football in Canafa with the Sarnia Imperials for one season prior to enlisting in the U.S. Army.
Prior to assuming a semi-retired status in 1994, he served at several difference vice-president levels with three difference Fortune 100 corporations including White Consolidated Industries, Gulf and Western Industries, and Rockwell International Automotive Operations.
He attended graduate school for three years at Eastern Michigan University and one year at the Detroit College of Law. Lambert also attended management development courses at Stanford, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Michigan State University.
Prior to coming to Heidelberg, Lambert was a standout at Wilber Wright High School in Dayton where he earned eight varsity letters. Highlighting his high school career was winning the White Allen Chevrolet Scholar Athlete Trophy his senior year.
He has credited his success to the coaching of John Spezzaferro and Paul Hoernemann.
