Bill Sheets, the 2002 OAC Pitcher of the Year, played a vital role in the emergence of the Heidelberg baseball program in the early 2000s. Recruited by Chris Keshock, Sheets rose to prominence under Matt Palm as the Student Princes transformed into perennial contenders.

After going 5-6 as a freshman, Sheets returned to the team in 2001 and compiled a 9-2 record, with 76 strikeouts in 70.2 innings -- all career highs.

In his award-winning junior year, Sheets was 7-3 with seven complete games -- including three shutouts. His minuscule 2.17 ERA was among the top 50 across the nation that year.

Battling arm issues as a senior, Sheets gritted out a 6-1 record and appeared in a career-high 15 games. He played an integral role as Heidelberg won its first OAC regular season title.

In total, Sheets was 27-12 in a Heidelberg uniform, with a sub-4.00 ERA and 228 strikeouts. He was a three-time All-OAC first-team honoree and an ABCA All-Region honoree in 2002. He holds program records for career wins and shutouts.

After graduation, Sheets has risen to Assistant Vice President at Zimmerman Paint Contractors -- a company for which he has worked for nearly two decades. Sheets resides in Perrysburg, Ohio, with his wife Lyndi, and his two sons, Kristofer and Benjamin. He remains active with the sport of baseball, helping coach his sons’ teams.
