Heidelberg Athletics Hall of Fame
A member of the 1972 Stagg Bowl Championship team, Thomas M. Coffman was described by Head Coach Pete Riesen as, "one of the most determined, aggressive defensive ends I have ever coached." A four-year letterwinner from 1970-73, Coffman was twice named first team All-Ohio Conference and was awarded the Hank Critchfield award following the 1973 season as the outstanding defensive lineman in the OAC.
During the championship season of '72, Coffman led the team in tackles with 119, 64 of which were primaries, and was first in "Big Plays" with 21. Co-captain of the 1973 squad, Coffman led the Student Princes in primary tackles (73), total tackles (124), and ·Big Plays· (25) en route to the Critchfield Award. He was also a participant in the East - West Ohio Shrine All-Star Game.
After receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology and health & physical education in 1974, Coffman became the Director of Athletics at Tiffin University. He served in that capacity from 1974-78, during which time he became a member of the Mid-Ohio Conference and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).
In 1978, Coffman left Tiffin University to enter private business for two years. He returned to T.U. In 1980 as Director of Athletics once again and in 1981 became the Director of Development and Alumni Relations there. Coffman served in that position for one year before accepting the position as Director of Development at Albion College in Albion, Michigan. In May, 1986, he became the Vice President for Institutional Advancement at Albion College, a position that he currently holds.
