Heidelberg Athletics Hall of Fame
Few Heidelberg football greats have their names appearing today in the record books as often as Paul "Sparkler" Yackey.
Noted for his speed, power and desire, Yackey currently holds nine records. Among them are most total touchdowns and most touchdowns by rushing in a single game (7 and 4 respectively against Indiana State in 1951); most net yards in a season (1,144 in 1951).
A three-time All-OAC player, Yackey was a key in Heidelberg's 1952 conference championship.
Teams he played on amassed an amazing accumulative record of 30-5-1 in four seasons from 1949-52.
Yackey is currently vice president for development at Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, Va.
Following his graduation from Heidelberg in 1953, Yackey worked in various capacities for the Pasadena (California) YMCA until joining the Heidelberg staff as the college alumni secretary in 1963.
