ADRIAN, Michigan -- On Thursday afternoon, the Heidelberg University women's tennis team earned hard fought points from
Amelia Smith and
Rachel Terbovich, but fell 7-2 away to Adrian College.
The Berg (0-2) also received great play from
Chloe Duquette at second singles, but Adrian (1-2) took the third set super tie-breaker.
Duquette suffered deja vu after playing a tough match to a third set, but came out on the wrong end once again in her second match of what looks to be a competitive future for the Tricolor. Sara Anthony of Adrian took the match 1-6, 6-1, 11-9.
At first singles, Terbovich earned her second win of the season in the top spot, as she cruised past Sam Cyrus 6-2, 6-2. The freshman now sits at 2-0 in her collegiate career.
Smith battled back from 2-5 in a must-win second set against MaKenna Crowley. Facing the near impossible, Smith forced the third set tiebreaker where she took the match 10-7. Smith is now 2-0 on the year at sixth singles.
Katelyn Wansik (third),
Emmy Flottman-Mullen (fourth), and
Megan Novess (fifth) were all upended 0-6, 0-6.
At first doubles, Terbovich and Wansik fell 1-8. At second doubles, Flottman-Mullen and Duquetter lost 2-8 and at third, Smith and Novess were overcome 0-8.
Heidelberg will break for the winter and return to the court on March 21 at home to Marietta College.
