TIFFIN -- The Heidelberg University women's tennis team earned their first win of the season at home on Sunday afternoon against NCAA Division II opponent, Ursuline College by a final score of 9-0.
All six women who competed for the Student Princes (1-3) took care of business both in the doubles and singles matches.
Esmerelda Salazar defeated Liz Weber at first singles with a 6-1, 6-1 scoreline. Jillian Goulet swept second singles winning both sets 6-0. Meridith Lucius took both sets at third singles by a score of 6-2. Emmy Flottman-Mullen ran into slight trouble at fourth singles as she was forced to a tiebreaker in the first set against Megan Fortney. However, Flottman-Mullen settled in and cruised to take the second set 6-1. At fifth singles, Megan Novess knocked off Bea Fults 6-1, 6-2. Wrapping up the singles matches, Samantha Escalera came out on top 6-0, 6-1 on the day.
In the doubles matches, the duo of Salazar and Flottman-Mullen cruised to a 8-1 win. Goulet and Lucius also eased to victory as they defeated the Ursuline (0-3) pair of Ashley Duncan and Clare Hunt, 8-2. Finally, Novess and Escalera took third doubles at 8-4.
The Student Princes will hit the road with the men's team on Saturday, March 30 to travel to Spring Arbor University. The start time is slated for 3:30 p.m. for both matches.
