TIFFIN, Ohio -- The Heidelberg University women's tennis team was knocked off by Shawnee State University in their season-opener on Saturday afternoon.
The visitors took the match by a score of 7-2.
Two Student Princes were able to win their singles matches to give Heidelberg their team points on the day.
Leading the way was
Rachel Terbovich at first singles who knocked off Jessica Willard in difficult fashion, 6-4, 7-5. At sixth singles,
Amelia Smith was victorious as she defeated Regan Osborn 6-2, 6-2.
At seconds,
Chloe Duquette fell victim to a dramatic 10-8 super-tiebreaker loss against Grace Eberhard. Duquette's scoreline was 3-6, 6-4, 8-10.
At thirds,
Katelyn Wansik was defeated by Claire Carruthers 3-6, 0-6. In fourth singles,
Emmy Flottman-Mullen fell 2-6, 2-6. Rounding out singles play was
Megan Novess at fifth singles. Novess fell 0-6, 0-6.
In doubles play, Terbovich and Wansik fell 4-8 at first doubles, while Flottman-Mullen and Duquette narrowly lost at second doubles, 5-8. In third doubles, Smith and Novess were knocked off 0-8.
The Student Princes will be back to the court on Thursday as they travel to Adrian College for a 4 p.m. match.
