CHICAGO -- The offense just keeps on rolling.

On its first road test in 2018, the Heidelberg University men's lacrosse team pummeled Concordia University (Ill.) in a 15-1 win on Tuesday afternoon. The Berg now sits at 3-0 and is averaging 18.67 goals per game on the young season.

Matt Wernerspach, Nick Selfridge, and Liam Weaver all had hat tricks on the afternoon. Sophomores Patrick McCarthy and Brock Hodson each had two goals and two assists.

Hunter Edwards ignited the Heidelberg offense with his third goal of the season. The sophomore gave the visitors an early 1-0 lead, as the strike came just three minutes into the contest.

After Noah Messerall picked up a ground ball off a Concordia turnover, the Berg completed a successful clear. In their offensive end, McCarthy connected with Selfridge, who rifled a shot past the CUC goalie for a 2-0 lead. It was Selfridge's 11th goal of the season.

Early in the second period, Hodson tallied his second goal of the season, pushing the HU lead to 3-0.

With 2:31 before halftime, the Cougars got on the board off a goal from Hunter Combe.

Holding a sligh 3-1 edge out of the half, the Berg's offense continued to roll. McCarthy reinstated the three goal lead with his ninth goal of the season, coming less than a minute into the third.

Selfridge won the faceoff following the McCarthy goal and less than a minute later, Liam Weaver scored his first goal of the afternoon. Weaver's shot came off a pass from Hodson, extending the Student Prince advantage to 5-1.

Wernerspach, the Berg's leading scorer, netted his 12th of the season with nine minutes to play in the third. Wernerspach added another goal in the period along with Selfridge, McCarthy, and Weaver for a comfortable 10-1 cushion heading into the fourth.

Heidelberg tacked on five goals in the fourth, courtesy of Weaver, Selfridge, Hodson, Wernerspach, and Barry Middleton.

Freshman Alex Bruder made four saves to earn the victory.

Jacob White was outstanding defensively, causing seven turnovers and picking up nine ground balls. Edwards picked up a team-high 10 ground balls and caused three turnovers.

The Berg outshot the Cougars, 55-8, and committed 22 turnovers compared to the home team's 44.

Heidelberg returns to the Buckeye State on Saturday when they host Kalamazoo. First face off is slated for 1 p.m.
