ALMA, Michigan -- A season-opening four-game win streak came to an end for the Heidelberg University men's lacrosse team on Wednesday evening. The Student Princes fell to Alma College, 16-7, in non-conference action. The Berg fell to 4-1 while Alma improved to 2-6.
Freshman Liam Weaver scored three goals and tallied an assist on the evening. Nick Selfridge accounted for two goals in the loss.
Alma jumped out to a 4-0 lead before Selfridge's first tally with 3:22 left in the. Heidelberg trailied 5-1 after one and 10-3 at halftime.
Down 14-4 at the end of the third, Patrick McCarthy and Brock Hodson scored a pair less than a minute apart to start the fourth. The Scots stifled any hopes of a colossal comeback by tallying the match's next two goals.
Goalkeeper Alex Bruder (4-1) made eight saves. Defenseman Chris Storrs caused a game-high four caused turnovers.
The Student Princes return home for the front half of a men's-women's lacrosse twinbill on Saturday. The men host Trine University (2-2) at 1 p.m. The Heidelberg women's lacrosse team (3-0) hosts Earlham College (0-2) at 4 p.m.
