MLAX downed by Capital

BEXLEY, Ohio -- The Heidelberg University men's lacrosse team could not recover from a first quarter deficit, as it fell to Capital University, 20-3 on Saturday afternoon.

The Crusaders scored twice because HU got on the board. Matt Wernerspach scored his 28 goal of the season with 8:05 remaining in the first quarter. The home team answered right away, scoring five times before the end of the period.

Capital kept its momentum for the rest of the half, taking a commanding 13-1 lead into halftime.

Owen Carter and Wernerspach both capitalized on man up opportunities early in the second half for the Berg.

Max Rennillo made 14 saves in the loss.Nick Selfridge and Ryan Sinnema each picked up seven ground balls for the Student Princes.

HU falls to 3-11, 0-6 OAC while the Crusaders improve to 7-5, 4-2.

Heidelberg returns home on Wednesday when it hosts John Carroll University. Game time is slated for 7 p.m.
