Berg hosts impromptu tourney

TIFFIN -- With their weekend plans scrapped because of course conditions and weather forecast, the Heidelberg University Golf teams threw together a four-team tournament on Friday at Mohawk Golf & Country Club. Heidelberg's women were third while the men's team finished second.

On the women's side, Lydia Dietz carded a +10 82, good for fifth overall. She birdied the par-4 seventh, picking up the team's only circle on the day.

Brooke Barnes was ninth, bringing in a +15 87. She had a team-high eight pars on the day.  

Danielle Powell and Elizabeth Jackson tied for 12th with twin 88s. Lexie Honigford (123) rounded out HU's top five while Paige Kearns (105) made her spring debut as an individual. 

The top five for the men were led by Jimmy Johnston and Josh Ferdon who shot 78s and tied for fourth. 

Cameron Spraggins was a shot back, carding a 79 for the day.  Logan Niese and Emerson Grassbaugh both brought in 81s.

Heidelberg's best showing was the B team's Max Schneckenburger, who shot a  +3 75 and finished second overall. After starting with a bogey on the ninth hole, he turned around and was one under on the back nine. 

Nathan Kelly (79), Garrett Wahl (84), Cael Dowdell (85) and Colin Jennings (90) rounded out the squad.

Bluffton was the women's champion and Ohio Northern won on the men's side.
