HINCKLEY, Ohio -- Heidelberg University Men's Golfer
Garrett Wahl took top honors at the Cleveland Cup, hosted by Baldwin Wallace University. The event, shortened to one round due to foul weather on Sunday, was held at Pine Hills Golf Club. Wahl shot a +2 74, winning the event by one stroke.
Heidelberg's A Team was second, shooting a 317. The B Team, which included Wahl, scored a 342.
Starting on hole 12, Wahl began with a bogey, but birdied 15, 16 and 17. Later, he added birdies on 5 and 7, helping the sophomore shatter his collegiate best. He is HU's first individual medalist since
Josh Ferdon won the Battle of the Sandusky last fall.
The A team was led by
Logan Niese, who finished one shot off the lead with a +3 75.
Matthew Peter also finished in the 70s, carding a 78.
James Johnston and
Emerson Grassbaugh rounded out the scoring with an 81 and an 83.
Cael Dowdell carded an 88.
Wahl's stunning 74 led the B squad, followed by an 81 from
Lance Frankart.
Max Schneckenburger's 88 and
Austin Hammond's 99 gave the B team a 342.
Matthew Kittle shot an even 100.
The Student Princes will wrap up the fall slate at the Polar Bear Classic on Nov. 3, at Tradition Golf Club in Hebron, Ky.
