WEST LAFAYETTE, Ohio -- A memorable Sunday at the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships saw the Heidelberg University Men's Golf team climb to a fifth-place finish. Leading the charge was senior
Josh Ferdon, who -- in his final collegiate round -- set a personal best. HU shot a 301-316-293--910 over the 54 hole tournament.
Ferdon came out to a blazing start on Sunday, shooting five under on the front and finished three under for the day. Over the tournament, he shot 75-76-69--220, placing eighth. His -3 69 bested his previous best of 70, set earlier this year. His season average (75.19) and career average (76.92) both sit second in program history since 2003.
Matthew Peter was 14th overall, carding a 74-76-72--222. He had four birdies on Sunday and, as he had all weekend, closed the final six holes unblemished.
Logan Niese capped his career with an even par on Sunday, placing 24th for the event. His 72 tied his personal best, boosted by a magnificent -3 under on the back on Sunday. For the event, he was 78-81-72--231.
Cael Dowdell was 31st with a 74-83-81--238 and Jimmy Johnston was 34th with an 80-83-80--243.
Heidelberg's 293 was one off their program record.
Mount Union and Otterbein tied for first, but the Purple Raiders earned the conference's automatic qualifier on the second playoff hole. Otterbein's Clay Bruning won the event, finishing -3.

Matthew Peter leads HU with a 74-76--150 through 36 holes. He has birdied the Par-5 eighth twice. Over the first two rounds, he is -1 on holes 13-18.
Senior
Josh Ferdon is next, carding a 75-76--151. The highlight of his weekend so far is an eagle on the eighth hole on Friday.
Cael Dowdell has a 74-83--157 through two rounds. Dowdell started out on fire on Friday, sitting -4 through six. He finished the round with six birdies on the day.
Logan Niese has carded a 78-81--159. He had two birdies on Friday and had one on Saturday.
James Johnston sits with an 80-83--163.
Ohio Northern leads with a 291-288--579.
The final round will begin on Sunday morning.
