WESTERVILLE -- This week, the Ohio Athletic Conference released the all-league lists for women's and men's lacrosse.
Sydney Shaffer was listed among the top players on the women's side and
Alex Bruder was including on the men's side. Shaffer and Bruder were both tabbed as honorable mentions, with each picking up the conference honor for the first time.
Shaffer enjoyed a breakout season, scoring a team-high 30 points. The Spencerville, Ohio, native tallied 19 goals and 11 assists. The 11 helpers is second on HU's single-season record book. She scored goals in 12 of Heidelberg's 15 games this season, including back-to-back hat tricks in games against Muskingum and Ohio Northern.
She is the second player in program history to earn All-OAC honors, joining Jessica Ballow (2018).
Returning for his fifth year, Bruder led the men's team with 23 goals and 27 points. Eight of his goals came in HU's 16-6 win over Wilmington, which tied a program record for goals in a conference game (
Liam Weaver, 8 vs. Wilmington in 2019). For his career, he sits third among Heidelberg goal-scorers with 78. In addition to his prowess on attack, Bruder played 20 of his 64 career games as goalkeeper.
Bruder is Heidelberg's fourth All-OAC honoree all-time (
Chris Storrs, 2017; Hunter Edwards, 2019;
Liam Weaver, 2021).
