WLAX: 'Berg caps season with win over Muskingum

TIFFIN, Ohio -- On Senior Day, the Heidelberg University women's lacrosse team put a bow on the 2019 campaign with a 14-1 victory over Muskingum University on Saturday. Prior to the contest, the program honored its five seniors -- Dana Dudley, Jen Kovarik, Maureen Kelly, Alexandra Farmer and Naomi Smith.

Heidelberg ended the season with an 8-9 record overall, 2-6 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. The Muskies slipped to 1-15, 0-8.

Angela Lulejian wasted no time getting the Student Prince on the board with a goal just 58 seconds into the game.

From there, a steady offense and a stout defense led to an 8-0 lead at halftime for the Berg. Kovarik, Dudley, and Jenna Carman each netted two goal, while Anna Winnicki accounted for the other first-half tally. Lulejian (2) and Winnicki picked up the only assists in the first 30 minutes of play.

In the first half, the defense limited the Muskies to just six shots and forced seven of the visitors' 18 turnovers.

Heidelberg continued to find the cage in the second half with a trio of goals from Carman, and a single tally from Winnicki, Farmer and Kelly Spence. Kovarik, Lulejian, Farmer, and Carman added second half helpers.

Even while holding Muskingum's offense to just five second half shots, the Student Princes were finally breached with just 59 second remaining on a free-position shot by Courtney Hines. In goal, Mandi Phillips stopped a total of five shots.

On the ground, Winnicki (7) and Farmer (8) combined for 15 ground ball pickups. Winnicki also caused five turnovers in the game.

Dudley finished her Heidelberg career with 75 goals and 17 assist for a total of 92 points -- most in program history. Kovarik's career ended with 42 goals and 11 assists.
