Box Score NEW CONCORD -- A five-goal second quarter was not enough for the Heidelberg University women's lacrosse team, as the Student Princes fell to host Muskingum University, 19-8.
Gianna Ricci and
Sydney Shaffer each tallied three goals on the afternoon.
The Muskies got on the board 16 seconds into the contest.
Shaffer evened the game midway through the first with a goal assisted by
Kelly Spence. The Muskies scored 21 seconds later, then added another before the end of the first.
Ricci opened the scoring 22 seconds into the second quarter, but Muskingum answered quickly.
Ricci scored her second goal of the period two minutes later -- but once again, the Muskies responded with a goal on the ensuing possession.
Later, down 6-3, Heidelberg scored back-to-back goals by
Hannah Kaplan and Ricci. Unfortunately, Muskingum scored four of the last five goals in the half. The lone tally for HU in that span was a free position shot by Kaplan.
Muskingum and Heidelberg traded goals to start the third, with Shaffer netting the 'Berg tally. The hosts scored the game's next seven goals.
Shaffer's third goal came midway through the fourth quarter.
In goal,
Ella Lane made seven saves. Shaffer caused two turnovers and
Kelly Spence scooped up five ground balls.
Heidelberg hosts Ohio Northern on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
