Heidelberg opens OAC play 1-0 for the first time since 2013
TIFFIN -- For the first time since 2013, the Heidelberg University women's soccer team has opened conference play with a win. Another clean sheet from Alexandra Farmer helped lead HU to a 2-0 win over Muskingum University on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, HU has tied its win total from a season ago, improving to 7-3-1 (1-0-0 OAC). The Muskies fall to 3-7-0 (0-1-0 OAC).
Freshman Sophie Huber netted her first collegiate goal in the 35th minute. A clear attempt by the Muskies failed, and ended right at the feet of Huber. Huber took a touch and fired it into the back of the net to give the Student Princes a 1-0 lead.
Erica Campbell added an insurance goal for the Student Princes with her team-leading eighth goal in the 60th minute. Senior Madelaine Kuhn played a beautiful through ball to Campbell from midfield. Campbell chipped the ball over the MU keeper's head for a 2-0 Heidelberg advantage.
Farmer made three saves in goal for the Berg. Muskingum keepers Jasmine Love and Katie Bodenmiller combined for 14 saves.
Heidelberg outshot the Muskies, 23-6.
