TIFFIN -- The Heidelberg University Women's Soccer team had their chances, but were unable to find the net in a 2-0 loss to Marietta at Hoernemann Stadium on Saturday.
The Berg slipped to 4-10 overall, 1-4 in OAC action. The Pioneers improved to 5-7-2, 2-2.
Marietta scored midway through the first, slipping a shot past
Maddi Springer.
Early in the second half,
Brianna Braatz passed to
Ella Jacobs on a two-on-one breakaway. Jacobs settled the ball down with a touch, then blistered a shot past the ear of the hard-charging Marietta goalkeeper. Unfortunately for the Student Princes, the shot rang off the goalpost, right back to the keeper.
Moments later, Marietta scored an insurance goal.
Heidelberg outshot the Pioneers, 11-9. Springer stopped three shots.
The Berg heads on the road twice next week -- at Mount Union on Wednesday, and at Ohio Northern on Saturday.
