TIFFIN -- Playing with 10 players, the Heidelberg University women's lacrosse team put forth a valiant effort on Wednesday, but ran out of gas in a 14-11 loss to Alma College. Dana Dudley and Anna Winnicki electrified the Hoernemann Stadium crowd with a combined 10 goals.

The Student Princes, 0-3, are still searching for their first win in the inaugural season. Alma (5-2) has won three straight.

Heidelberg raced out of the gate with three quick goals in transition -- two by Winnicki and one by Dudley.

After two goals by the Scots, Winnicki made it 4-2 with a free position goal at the 21:29 mark. Dudley tacked on another goal to make it 5-2.

Alma's Olivia Benoit, who finished with four goals, scored a pair in a 3.5 minute span.

With their lead cut to one, Winnicki and Dudley were back at it with a goal each -- at 8:15 and 5:40.

Up 7-5 with 14 seconds left in the first half, Dudley put HU up 8-5 with a free position goal.

Playing with a full 12 players, Alma scored six straight goals within a nine minute span in the second half to turn a 9-6 deficit into a 12-9 advantage for the Scots.

Abby Rose cut the Alma lead to 12-10 with 13:33 remaining with her first collegiate goal off a pass from Dudley.

By the end, Dudley, Winnicki and the Student Princes were gassed. Dudley tallied six goals and Winnicki added four.

Goalie Janessa Scott made 11 saves and picked up nine ground balls. Dudley and Winnicki combined for nine caused turnovers.

The Student Princes commence OAC play on Saturday. Game time against Otterbein is scheduled for 7 p.m.
