Another scoreless tie for Women's Soccer

TIFFIN -- With a little help from the goalposts, the Heidelberg University women's soccer team escaped with a 0-0 tie against Mount St. Joseph on Saturday. A 90-minute weather delay in the second half lengthened the game, which featured more than 25 fouls.

It was the second-straight scoreless tie for Heidelberg, which moves to 2-1-2 on the season. MSJ is now 1-2-1.

The Lions had the better of the scoring chances, hitting the post more than four times. MSJ bombarded Alexandra Farmer with 24 shots -- eight on goal -- but did not find the back of the net. A several occasions, the sophomore goalkeeper made saves on MSJ chances from point-blank range.

Heidelberg mustered up four shots, one on goal. Lions goalies Michelle Hessling and Lindsey Sturwold combined on the shutout.

The best Student Prince opportunity came on a cross in the waning minutes of regulation. Shae-lynn Hallowell nearly ran on to the end of the cross from the left wing, but Sturwold deflected it away as the two collided.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

Thunder/lightning halted play with 13:30 left in the second half at 5:35 p.m.  Play resumed at 6:59 p.m.  

QUOTES FROM THE COACH

Head coach Nick Spell on his team playing 220 minutes in two days: "We're proud of our players for the character that they showed and the fortitude that they had to come off an exhausting overtime against Transylvania yesterday and hang on against another good opponent tonight."

Spell on the play of Farmer: "Farmer was lights out tonight ... We wouldn't have a tie without her. She made five unbelievable saves which kept us in the game.

Heidelberg hosts Wooster on Tuesday -- the third game of a five-match homestand. The game is scheduled for a 5 p.m. kick.
