BEREA, Ohio – The Heidelberg University men's tennis team fell to Baldwin Wallace 5-0 on Wednesday in the quarterfinals of the Ohio Athletic Conference tournament to end their season. The Student Princes battled in a couple of close matches but were unable to overcome the Yellow Jackets on their home courts in a match that began outside but was finished indoors after rain began to fall during doubles play.
Heidelberg ends their season with a 5-12 record while Baldwin Wallace improves to 23-4 and will advance to the semifinals of the OAC tournament on Friday in Mason.
BW took the second doubles match quickly by an 8-0 score to jump out to a 1-0 lead before the Student Princes fell 8-3 at first doubles. At third doubles, Paul Claymier and Kyle Simpson were locked into a tough match, but were unable to get a late break, falling 8-6.
The match ended after the Yellow Jackets won at both second and third singles to clinch the win. Ben Moore fell at second singles 6-1, 6-2 while Tyler Flickinger was defeated at third singles 6-3, 6-0.
For the season, freshman Jonathan Long led the Berg with a 10-9 record, including a 3-5 mark in OAC action at first singles. In doubles play, Long and Moore teamed up for a 5-10 record on the year, all at first doubles.
