Men's Tennis throttles Muskingum for 8-1 win

NEW CONCORD – The Heidelberg University men's tennis team took advantage of a day with great weather, defeating Muskingum University on the road. The Student Princes were one match away from the sweep, defeating the Muskies 8-1.

At first doubles, Ben Moore and Tyler Flickinger dominated their opponents, sweeping an 8-0 match.

Heidelberg also took the second and third doubles matches. Paul Claymier and Jamie Cole paired up for an 8-2 win while Andres Isea and Kyle Simpson held on for an 8-6 victory.

Moore was just as dominant in his first singles match, making quick work of Mitch Hazard for the Muskies. Moore swept the match easily for a 6-0, 6-0 win.

Flickinger, Claymier, Cole, and Simpson all won their singles matches as well, all in two sets.

The lone win for Muskingum on the day came at sixth singles, where Kyle Boone was unable to keep up with Gene Montgomery, falling 1-6, 0-6.

Following the win, Heidelberg moved to 2-11 overall with a 2-4 mark in Ohio Athletic Conference action. Muskingum dropped to 0-9 (0-6 OAC). The Student Princes are nearing the final stretch of their spring season with just two matches remaining. Their next contest will be their final home match of the year, taking on Capital on Wednesday, April 22nd. The OAC contest is scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m. at the Heidelberg University tennis courts.
