HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Heidelberg University tennis teams were in action in South Carolina on Monday, facing Gordon College. In the women's match, Heidelberg was in a close one having five matches that either went a third set or tiebreaker, but they ended up falling 5-4. For the men, they were unable to keep up, falling 9-0 to the Fighting Scots.
For the women in doubles play, Sara Potts and Siara Patrick picked up the lone win for the Berg, taking a 9-8 win with a 7-5 tiebreaker.
At second singles, Katie Strahan rebounded after a tough 6-1 loss in the first set to rally back and take the second set 6-4, finishing off her rally with a 10-4 triumph in the third and deciding set to win. At fourth singles, Markilynn Hogle emerged victorious, winning 7-6(8-6), 6-4. Potts dominated in her match at fifth singles, taking part in two victories on the day with a 6-0, 6-1 win.
For the men it was a different story, as HU couldn't keep pace with Gordon. In first doubles, Ben Moore and Tyler Flickinger dropped an 8-3 match in the closest of the three at doubles.
In singles play, Paul Claymier fared the best, falline 0-6, 5-7, battling close in the second but falling in a close set.
The Heidelberg Tennis teams will continue their competition in Hilton Head tomorrow at 8:00 a.m. when they take on Penn St.-Behrened.
