TIFFIN/ADA – The Heidelberg University men's and women's tennis teams took on Ohio Northern on Saturday for their first conference matches of the year. Both teams had a rough start to conference action, however, as the Polar Bears proved to be too much, taking both matches by a 9-0 final score. The women's record for the year dropped to 3-5 with the loss while the men are still searching for their first win at 0-6 on the season.
For the women, Sofey Fugate put up a fight at first singles, but was unable to pull through at the end, dropping a 7-5, 7-5 match. In doubles play, Fugate and Nicole Millar battled but dropped an 8-3 match, while at second doubles, Katie Strahan and Sara Potts dropped their match by an 8-3 score.
In the men's match, Tyler Flickinger and Ben Moore were in contention at first doubles but ended up losing by an 8-3 score while both the other doubles matches went in ONU's favor by an 8-2 score. Moore also put up the closest score in singles, dropping a 6-0, 6-4 match at first singles for the Student Princes.
The next men's match will be on Saturday, March 28th, when they travel to Muskingum to battle the Muskies, while the women will have their next contest on Tuesday, March 31st, when they travel to Baldwin Wallace for an OAC match.
