NEW CONCORD – A golden goal by Kristen Keenan propelled the Heidelberg University women's soccer team to a 1-0 overtime win over Muskingum on Saturday. The Student Princes controlled play for the vast majority of the match, but it took until overtime for them to break through for the goal.

KEY STATS

Heidelberg out-shot Muskingum 22-10 in the match, but it took until overtime for them to finally beat the keeper for the game-winner.

It was the first goal of the season for Keenan, who leads the Berg with four assists on the season.

Heidelberg improved to 7-6 on the season with the win, putting them above the .500 mark this late in the season for the first time since 2010.

Alexandra Farmer picked up her fourth shutout of the season in the win.  The freshman made three saves in the victory.

FIRST HALF

The Student Princes had possession for most of the half. Early on, the Berg had plenty of chances, but there were unable to find the back of the net. Denise Bowes put a shot on goal in the 17th minute, but the Muskie keeper made the save to keep the match scoreless.

Heidelberg put another shot on goal in the 42nd minute, but another save from Muskingum kept the game knotted at zero entering halftime.

SECOND HALF

Once again, the Berg had their chances early on. The Student Princes had five shots in the first six minutes of the period, but they couldn't break through for a goal. That remained the story for the remainder of the half, as they finished regulation scoreless.

Heidelberg held a 20-10 edge in shots in regulation.

OVERTIME

It didn't take long in the overtime period for the Berg to break through, as just 1:55 into overtime, Kristen Keenan scored from 30 yards out, sending the Student Princes home with the victory.

Heidelberg returns home on Tuesday to take on John Carroll. That conference match is scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m. at the Hidden Valley Soccer Complex in Tiffin.
