Although the fall season is not highly competitive in the world of collegiate tennis, every match counts, every set is important, every point is one step closer to the end of the season and eventually the end of a career.

The Heidelberg men's tennis team understood this concept when the played in their competition of the fall at the Oberlin Invitational on Saturday and Sunday, September 21 and 22. The two day tournament, hosted by Oberlin College, featured three rounds of singles play on Saturday followed by doubles competition on Sunday.

Freshman Ben Moore had a standout debut as a Student Prince as he swung his way to a 2-1 finish in singles action. Moore first match was a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Baldwin Wallace's Zach Elbin. Moore continued his success with another win over yet another Yellow Jacket, this time in the form of a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Dan Mezin.

Ben's third match is where he would suffer his first defeat of the day with a 6-2, 6-0 loss to Letch Radomirov of BW.

Senior Zach Schwenning began his final year in the Tricolor with a bumpy start at Oberlin. Schwenning dropped his three singles contests, 6-3, 6-1; 6-0, 6-0; 6-2. Schwenning then teamed up with Moore in double action, but the duo would go winless on Sunday and finish 0-3.

Seniors Matt McDivitt and Dorian Kempf had a rough outing at Oberlin as well, dropping their three single matches respectively.

Freshman Tyler Flickinger did not have a positive debut for the Student Princes in singles competition but he did not leave Oberlin winless. Flickinger teamed up with Kempf in double competition on Sunday and took their second match, 8-1 from their Baldwin Wallace counterparts. The pair dropped their first and last doubles contests, 8-5 and 9-7 respectively.

The Heidelberg men return to action on Tuesday, September 24 when they host the Yellow Jackets of Defiance College at the Heidelberg University Tennis Courts. The first serves are scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
