ALLIANCE, Ohio -- The Heidelberg University Baseball team fell twice to No. 11 Mount Union on Friday in Alliance. The Purple Raiders won the opener, 11-2, then took the nightcap, 14-3. Heidelberg slipped to 13-18 overall, 4-6 in conference play.
In the opener, both teams were scoreless until top of the third when Garrett Labeau singled to center, allowing
Braedy Limke to make his way home, giving Heidelberg the first run of the game.
Shortly after,
Logan Winstead drove in
Thomas McGuire for The Berg's second and final run of the game.
The Purple Raiders kept their bats hot, scoring five runs in the fifth inning, three in the sixth, one in the seventh, and two in the eighth.
In the second game,
Grant Bomer got things started in the top of the first with a single to right field, driving in a run as
Sam Schneider scored from second.
Mt. Union answered with two more runs in the bottom of the first, making the score 2-1. An eight-run fourth provided a comfortable cushion for the hosts.
HU scored a run on an error in the fifth, and on an RBI single by
Carter Dubois in the eighth.
Up next, the Student Princes host No. 17 Baldwin Wallace for a doubleheader on Wednesday.
