TIFFIN -- After a battle of the Bergs, the Heidelberg University Baseball team lost a good battle to the Wittenberg Tigers. HU dropped to 13-16 and Wittenberg moved to 22-6.
Wittenberg's bats were hot in the top of the first, scoring three runs to start the game.
HU's
Braedy Limke answered immediately in the bottom of the inning, off the first pitch from the Tigers he sent the ball flying over left field to secure a homerun for the Student Princes.
The Tigers kept the momentum in the top of the second, scoring two more runs before a weather delay, leading 5-1.
After a few storms and a distant tornado siren, play resumed at Peaceful Valley around 5:45.
The break must have been needed, so much that the Student Princes tied the game in the bottom of the second, 5-5. After an RBI single from
Owen Hood brought
Cohen Sendelbach home, Limke doubled in Hood and McKelley. To finish it off,
Sam Schneider singled up the middle, allowing Limke to cross the plate.
The Tigers responded in the top of the third and fourth innings, scoring two runs in each, extending the lead 9-5.
A sacrifice in the bottom of the fifth helped Heidelberg cut into the deficit, but the Student Princes left the bases loaded.
After two scoreless innings, the game ended in the seventh, 9-7.
Up next, the Student Princes travel to Mount Union for an OAC doubleheader on Friday. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
