TIFFIN, Ohio -- The Heidelberg University Baseball team fell at home in a midweek, non-conference contest with Albion College. Despite a late charge from the Student Princes, the Britons emerged with an 8-6 win at Peaceful Valley.
After giving up the game's first run in the top of the fourth, Heidelberg responded with two in the bottom of the inning. An error, a single and a walk loaded the bases for the Student Princes. With two down,
Logan Walpole laced a single to right, plating two.
Albion tied the game in the fifth, then took the lead in the sixth. The Britons added three in the seventh.
Down 8-1 in the ninth, Heidelberg sprang to life.
Connor Roberts led off with a hustle double inside the right field line and
Logan Winstead walked. Walpole, well known for his speed, tripled to deep right center, driving in two.
Brayden Tucker followed with a double to right center that fell just beyond the outstretched glove of a diving Briton. With the bases loaded, HU scored another on a wild pitch. The Britons stranded the tying run in scoring position, ending the game on a called third strike.
Starter
Shane Jones allowed two runs on six hits in five full innings of work. Four relievers combined for the final four frames.
Heidelberg is back in action on Wednesday, making the trek to Westminster College. First pitch is at 3:30 p.m., instead of a 4 p.m. start as originally planned.
