Walpole's walk-off double lifts 'Berg

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio -- A walk-off double by Logan Walpole drove in Grant Bomer, capping a successful weekend at VA Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe for the Heidelberg University Baseball team. The Student Princes defeated Penn State - Behrend, 3-2.

The Berg went 3-0 on the weekend, winning twice on Friday, and improved to 5-1 on the season.

Walpole started on the mound and was sharp. He allowed two runs, one earned, in seven full innings of work. He fanned five and didn't allow a walk.

The Lions plated their runs in the fifth, but HU responded in the sixth. Behrend starter Colin Bolla limited Heidelberg to two hits in 5.2 innings, but struggled with his control in the sixth. A Brayden Tucker hit-by-pitch was bookended by walks to Logan Winstead and Simeon Betts.  With two outs, Braedy Limke delivered a clutch two-run single to right and chased Bolla from the game.

After superb starts, the game turned over to the bullpens. Zac Weaver worked a scoreless eighth and Tyler Verdin struck out the side in the top of the ninth.

Bomer reached on a throwing error with one out in the ninth, then raced around the bases on the game-winning double down the right field line by Walpole.

Heidelberg is slated for a midweek game at Ohio Wesleyan on Wednesday before packing up for the annual spring trip to Florida.
