ANGOLA, Ind. -- The Heidelberg University Men's lacrosse team fell to Trine University Sunday afternoon, 16-2. The Student Princes fell to 1-2, and the Thunder moved to 3-0.
Trine struck early and often, scoring four goals in the opening quarter and adding six more in the second to take a commanding 10-0 halftime lead.
The Berg broke through late in the third when
Rayce Septer scored unassisted, and
Will Romell added a man-up goal in the fourth off a feed from
Colin Parker. Despite the late tallies, the Student Princes struggled to generate consistent offense, getting outshot by the Thunder and only winning three faceoffs.
Goalkeeper
Wilson Runnette made 15 saves to keep HU competitive for stretches, but Trine capitalized on extra-man chances.
Trine's Mitchell Voglewede, Connor Ballantyne, and Will Gonia each notched a hat trick, with four goals apiece for Voglewede and Ballantyne and three for Gonia, while Vin Pantano fueled the attack with four assists.
Heidelberg returns to action at home, Saturday Feb. 28 against Hiram. The opening faceoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
