Golf Teams tee off on 2025-26 season

HARROD, Ohio -- The fall portion of the schedule for the Heidelberg University Golf teams commenced with two days at the Colonial Golfers Club as part of Ohio Northern's Joe Campoli Classic. Technically two separate tournaments, the women's team was third of five schools both days, and the men tied for second on Sunday and was third of four schools on Monday. 

Emerson Grassbaugh tied for first on Monday but lost out on medalist honors on the first playoff hole.  

As a team, the Men's A team shot a 320 on Sunday and 316 on Monday. The B team carded a 330 on Sunday, then beat the A team with a 308 on Monday -- largely aided by Grassbaugh's -1 71 and Max Schneckenburger's +5 77. The B Team's win was the first in the Chris Abrams Era for the program, dating back to 2020. 

Sunday's top scores for the men included a +6 78 for Logan Niese (t-14th) and +8 80s for Josh Ferdon and Nate Kelly (t-19th).

On Monday, Grassbaugh's 71 led the way. He was followed by a +2 74 from Ferdon (6th), Schneckenburger's 77 (t-9th) and a +7 79 from Niese (t-16th).  Lance Frankart, James Johnston, and Matthew Peter all carded +8 80s (t-21st).  
 
The women's A team carded a 344 on Sunday and a 340 on Monday, while the B team shot a 405 and a 387.  

Lydia Dietz led Heidelberg on both afternoons. She placed fourth on Sunday with a +7 79 and moved up two spots on the leaderboard despite shooting another 79 on Monday. 

Brooke Barnes was second for HU on both days, scoring an 83 (t-10th) and an 82 (t-8th). Danielle Powell brought in a 90 and an 89, Elizabeth Jackson had an 89 and an 92, and Anzaya Estep scored a 92 and a 90.  

The women's team returns to action next, playing at the Mount Union Fall Invitational next weekend. The men will get back on the course in two weekends, also at the Mount Union Fall Invitational.
