TIFFIN -- After a memorable 12-year run at the helm of the Heidelberg University Men's Basketball team, Andy Bucheit announced his resignation on Thursday. Bucheit was named the head coach at Marietta College, the school where he served as an assistant just before arriving in Tiffin.
Bucheit rebuilt the Student Princes into a top-tier team in the Ohio Athletic Conference and the region. The Berg finished third in the standings and advanced to the league tournament semifinals in four straight seasons. He was named OAC Coach of the Year in 2020-21.
In 2021-22, the Student Princes were an at-large selection for the national tournament -- just the program's fourth trip to the Big Dance.
Bucheit's sustained run of success included 20 All-OAC selections, highlighted by one OAC Defensive Player of the Year honoree (
Eric Panning, 2023-24) and two Freshman of the Year recipients (Kiere Bennie, 2013-14;
Isaiah Young, 2021-22).
With 153 career wins, Bucheit departs second in program history behind Heidelberg legend John Hill.
Athletic Director Greg Cooper said an extensive search to find the program's next head coach will begin immediately.
