Men's Basketball Season Preview: 2025-26

11/7/2025 1:30:00 PM

A new era begins for Heidelberg Men's Basketball – the Summey Era.

With experience across all three NCAA divisions, Mike Summey has been named the next Head coach of Heidelberg University Men's basketball. He joins the program after serving as General Manager of Men's Basketball at the University of Utah. A former graduate manager at his alma mater, NC State, Summey has coached at several programs, including a 17-win season as head coach at Bethany College (WV) in 2008–09. He also held roles at Miami (FL), St. Francis (PA), and Bowling Green, where he helped lead the Falcons to a 21–10 record in 2019–20 before the season was cut short by COVID-19.

Also new to the Heidelberg staff is Assistant Coach Nick Mracek. Though new to Heidelberg, he and Coach Summey have history — Mracek was a student assistant at Bowling Green State University while Summey was on staff. He later coached at Lakeland Community College and the University of Rio Grande and served as a graduate assistant at Cleveland State. Mracek earned his bachelor's from Bowling Green in 2020 and his master's from Cleveland State in 2022.

Summey also brings back Graduate Assistant Jason Faizy for his second season with the Heidelberg Men's Basketball program. In his first year, Faizy helped guide the team to a 17–10 record (12–6 OAC), coaching three All-OAC honorees and one student-athlete who earned two All-Region selections. A University of Buffalo graduate, he previously served as a student manager for the UB Men's Basketball program, assisting in the development of four future professional players and a Big 12 champion.
