TIFFIN -- On Senior Day, the Heidelberg University Men's Lacrosse team picked up a memorable win inside Hoernemann Stadium. Behind a five-goal effort from
Tyler Alexander, the Student Princes beat visiting Wilmington College, 12-8.
Prior to the game, Heidelberg acknowledged the careers of seven seniors --
Tyler Alexander,
Ian Lewis,
Jacob Morgan,
Trevor Ley,
Jaxon Howard,
Braxton Hammond and
Benjamin Evans.
The Student Princes improved to 4-11 overall, 1-7 in the OAC. Wilmington dropped to 4-11, 0-8.
Alexander scored first, coming from behind the cage and beating the Quaker keeper high. Later in the first, tied at one,
Benjamin Evans collected his own rebound and rifled it into the net. Less than a minute later, Evans fed
Ethan Lommerse who tumbled and shot in one motion, scoring a goal.
Undone, Wilmington's Garrett Reigelsperger scored twice in the final two minutes of the quarter, knotting the game at 3-3.
The second quarter belonged to the Student Princes. The Berg scored four times in a three-minute span midway through the period and took a 7-3 lead into halftime. Alexander scored the first two goals of the spurt, then
Matthew Torres and
Rayce Septer found the back of the net. Evans picked up helpers on the final two tallies.
The Quakers opened the scoring in the second half with a quick two-goal burst.
Colin Parker answered with a goal, finding the net on the back side. Alexander added his fourth of the game with 3:40 left in the third, reinstating Heidelberg's four-goal advantage.
Alexander's fifth gave Heidelberg a five-goal lead, but Wilmington scored just before the end of the third. HU led, 10-6.
Wilmington opened the scoring in the fourth, but goals 24 seconds apart by Septer and Torres gave Heidelberg a 12-7 lead. The Quakers scored their final goal with 7:10 left, but the 'Berg defense offered little hope to the visitors the remainder of the game.
Goalkeeper
Wilson Runnette was sharp, stopping 12 shots. Defensively, 12 'Berg players caused at least one turnover.
Heidelberg won 17 of 23 faceoffs, with Ley winning 13 and Septer winning three.
Ethan Lommerse won one.
The Student Princes close out the 2025 campaign on Wednesday at Baldwin Wallace. The game against the Yellow Jackets is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
