ALMA, Michigan -- A sluggish second quarter spelled doom for the Heidelberg University Men's Lacrosse team in a narrow 10-8 loss at Alma College on Wednesday. The loss pushed the Student Princes back to .500 at 2-2, while the Scots improved to 6-0.
Heidelberg had two goals apiece from
Tyler Alexander,
Mario Manzardo and
Benjamin Evans. Alexander and
Jacob Morgan both had a pair of assists.
The Scots outscored Heidelberg in the second, 5-1, and held a 6-2 advantage at halftime.
As they have all season long, the Student Princes came out more aggressively in the third quarter, using a three-goal surge to prompt a timeout from the hosts. Alma answered with two more goals before the end of the frame and led 9-5 after three.
Down 10-6 midway through the fourth, HU tightened the game with goals by
Rayce Septer and
Benjamin Evans. The Evans tally came with 1:47 left, but Alma won the ensuing faceoff and controlled the remainder of the game.
Goalkeeper
Wilson Runnette made 11 saves in the game.
Heidelberg was 1-for-9 in man-up opportunities.
The Student Princes return to play on Saturday at Hanover College. The game is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start.
