WREST lands three on NWCA Scholar All-American List, finishes second nationally

MANHEIM, Pa. – The Heidelberg University Men's Wrestling program showed great success in the classroom this season, finishing second in the 2024 NCAA Division III Team Scholar All-America Awards, as announced by the National Wrestling Coaches Association. The Student Princes posted an impressive 3.82 team GPA. The runner-up finish was the third in a row for HU.  

In addition to the team's success, three Heidelberg wrestlers earned NWCA Scholar All-American honors.

Scholar All-American Criteria:
Wrestling Requirements (Must meet at least one):
  • Place in the top eight at the regional tournament
  • Compete in at least 15 matches with a win percentage above 66% (Matches against teammates only count if they occur in a tournament setting)

Academic Requirements (Must meet at least one):
  • Maintain a 3.2 GPA over the last two semesters/quarters (or last three trimesters)
  • Hold a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher

Heidelberg's Scholar All-Americans:
  • Owen Frizzell (Jr.) – Posted a 16-8 record, including a 3-2 mark in OAC competition. Recorded 10 falls and one major decision while placing sixth at NCAA Regionals. This marks his second NWCA Scholar All-America honor.
  • Tristan Craddock (Fr.) – Led the team with 20 wins, recording five falls, two technical falls, and two major decisions.
  • David Gelman (Jr.) – Finished the season with 15 wins, including eight falls, three tech falls, and one major decision. Placed seventh at NCAA Regionals, earning his first NWCA Scholar All-America recognition.
