DANVILLE, Va. -- After the first day of competition at the NCAA Division III Regional Tournament at Averett College, the Heidelberg University Wrestling team has two student-athletes who remain in contention. The top three placers in all 10 weight classes advance to the NCAA Division III National Championships.
Owen Frizzell was 2-0 on Friday, picking up a pin and a major decision at 184. He pinned Trenton Mead (Thiel) in 2:00 before toppling Nolan Gerwitz (Averett), 11-3. In the semifinals, he'll face Remington Bauer (Baldwin Wallace).
At 133,
David Gelman lost his opening bout, but roared back in the consolation bracket. He demolished Heath Burks (Shenandoah), 23-3, then slid past Trent Proctor (Ferrum), 9-5. On Saturday, he'll battle AJ Orlando (Averett).
