AKRON -- The Heidelberg University Swim Teams took to the pool at the Ocasek Natatorium at the University of Akron for the four-day Ohio Athletic Conference Championships. With both sides improving their point totals from their inaugural season last year, the teams took sixth.
On Wednesday, the meet kicked off with the 4x800 Free Relay.
Mackenzie Hoffman,
Delaney Buxton,
Virginia Dabrunz and
Maria Sweatt combined for an 8:47.11, taking fifth. The men,
Ian Bain,
Zach MacDonald,
Evan Eaglin and
Lance Koch, took sixth.
Individual event finals began on Thursday evening. Hoffman scored three points with a 5:48.19 in the 500 Free, picking up Heidelberg's points first of the evening.
Later,
Elli Mayer turned in an All-OAC performance in the 50 Free. She tied for third with a time of 24.71. Buxton added a 10th place finish in the event, touching the wall in 25.72.
Thursday concluded with the 4x100 Free Relay. The women -- Sweatt,
Cassy Connare, Mayer and Buxton -- took fifth with a 4:17.81.
Friday's finals began with a fifth-place finish for the women and men in the 200 Medley. Sweatt, Connare, Mayer and Buxton clocked a 1:57.41 for the women. The men -- Koch, Bain, MacDonald and Eaglin swam a 1:46.77.
Later, Mayer placed fifth in the 100 Fly, finishing with a 59.69. The men's 100 Fly had MacDonald 12th (54.75) and Koch 16th (59.76).
In the women's 200 Free, Buxton and Hoffman placed 13th and 14th with times of 2:06.00 and 2:08.51.
Connare was 14th in the 100 Breaststroke, finishing with a time of 1:15.62. For the men, Bain was also 14th, touching the wall in 1:02.10.
Swimming in her third final of the night, Mayer came in sixth in the 100 Back with a time of 1:02.68.
Competition came to a close on Saturday, kicked off by Hoffman's 13th-place performance in the grueling 1650 Free. She swam it in 20:38.31 -- a personal best.
Sweat scored a point with a 16th-place finish in the 200 Back, clocking a 2:26.61.
In the 100 Free, Buxton was seventh, swimming a 55.76.
Connare was 14th in the 200 Breaststroke, swimming a personal-best 2:48.81. Bain was 16th on the men's side with a 2:20.85.
HU capped the event with fifth-place finishes in the 400 Free relays.
