TIFFIN -- The Heidelberg University Men's Lacrosse rallied from a 4-0 hole, storming back in the second half to upend visiting Anderson University, 7-5.
Jacob Morgan scored three times, including the eventual game-winner midway through the third.
With the season-opening victory, Heidelberg improved to 1-0.
After a scoreless first quarter, Anderson scored two goals in a 17-second span early in the second to take the lead. Another goal before halftime gave the Ravens a 3-0 lead.
Down 4-0 in the third,
Benjamin Evans took a pass from Morgan and put Heidelberg on the board with 8:21 left. Three minutes later, freshman
Ethan Lommerse scored his first collegiate goal off a pass from Evans.
Less than a minute later, transfer
Mario Manzardo netted his first goal for the Tricolor that cut the HU deficit in half. Heidelberg equalized with 26 seconds left in the third when Morgan tallied his first of the game.
A mere 66 seconds into the fourth quarter, Morgan registered his second marker of the contest. The go-ahead goal was assisted by Evans -- his third of the game.
Anderson tied the game a minute later, and the game remained knotted at 5-5 with less than eight minutes to play.
Morgan's game-winner came with 7:16 to play. Beating a defender down the right side, Morgan was in alone on the goalkeeper. The veteran slipped the shot into the net, completing the hat trick.
Evans added an insurance goal with 3:26 remaining, assisted by
Tyler Alexander.
While the offense rallied, 'Berg goalkeeper
Wilson Runnette was tremendous. Making 20 saves on the evening, the junior kept his squad in the game until the offense found its footing.
