Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

LAX moves to 2-0, downs the Quakers

TIFFIN -- Avenging a tough loss last season, the Heidelberg University Men's Lacrosse team soundly defeated visiting Earlham College on a frigid Wednesday evening at Hoernemann Stadium. After notching four points in the opener, Benjamin Evans continued his strong start with four goals against the Quakers.

With the win, Heidelberg improved to 2-0 for the first time since 2018. Earlham fell to 0-3.

Evans kicked off the scoring in the first quarter with an unassisted goal at the 7:19 mark. The Student Princes extended their lead in the second when Mario Manzardo found the back of the net off a feed from Rayce Septer. Less than three minutes later, Septer struck unassisted to make it 3-0. Heidelberg capped off the half with Colin Parker finishing a setup from Ethan Lommerse, sending the Berg into the break up 4-0.

The Student Princes dominated the third quarter, outscoring Earlham 4-0. Evans opened the second-half scoring with his second unassisted goal of the night, followed by another from Septer. Manzardo returned the favor by assisting Septer's third goal, and Evans completed his hat trick with 2:16 left in the quarter to push the lead to 8-0.

Septer continued his stellar night in the fourth, scoring his fourth goal with 9:06 to play. Evans capped off Heidelberg's offensive explosion with his fourth of the game off a pass from Jacob Morgan. Evans led all players with 10 shots, six of which were on goal, while Septer was efficient, scoring four times on seven attempts. Manzardo and Parker also contributed to the attack with a goal apiece, and Lommerse and Morgan each added an assist.

Earlham scored three times late, but Heidelberg's defense was strong throughout. Braxton Hammond led the team with nine ground balls, while Kevin Smith and Ethan Lommerse caused a turnover each. Faceoff specialists Trevor Ley and Jaxon Howard combined to win 10 draws, helping Heidelberg control possession.

In net, Wilson Runnette made 10 saves, anchoring a defensive unit that allowed just three goals on 23 shots.

The Student Princes will look to keep their perfect start alive when they return to action against Trine on March 1. That match will take place at Hoernemann Stadium at 1:00 p.m.
