Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Berg by a bunch!

Saturday game shifts

TIFFIN -- On the grass at the Hidden Valley Soccer Complex for the first time this season, the Heidelberg University Women's Soccer team enjoyed a rousing 4-0 victory over visiting Albion College. Freshman Brianna Braatz picked up her first collegiate goal and  two assists, helping propel The Berg to 1-0-1 on the season.

Yet to concede a goal, the Berg defense has consecutive shutouts to start a season for the first time in its history

In the 12th minute, Braatz found enough space on the right wing to send a cross into the penalty area. Waiting on the edge of the six-yard box to receive the service was Sydney Hewer, who headed it past the Britons netminder for HU's first goal of the season.

Less than eight minutes later, Ella Marshall ran onto a beautiful pass from Braatz through the middle of the Albion back line and slotted a right-footed shot inside the post.

Ahead 2-0 at halftime, Heidelberg scored again in the 59th minute. On a counterattack that started in HU's defensive third, Braatz fended off a challenge from a Briton defense and beat the Albion goalkeeper to her right.

In the 70th minute, Alayna Hahn cleaned up a loose ball in the penalty area for her first goal of the season and second of her career.

The visitors had several strong offensive opportunities, but a scrappy 'Berg back line was equal to each task. The Britons' best look came in the 86th minute when Kelsi Green sprang through the defense and was in all alone against Madi Springer. On the shot, Jacobs dove to her left and deflected the ball over the endline.

Springer and starting goalkeeper Brigid Enright combined for the shutout. Enright made five saves and Springer had two.

Heidelberg was slated to host Bethany at 1 p.m. Saturday, but the Hidden Valley Soccer Complex will be inaccessible due to the Tiffin Cross Country Carnival. As of 9:30pm on 9/4, the game will take place at 4 p.m. on Saturday at Hoernemann Stadium.
