Baseball downed at Otterbein

WESTERVILLE, Ohio -- The rough patch for the Heidelberg University Baseball team continued with a pair of losses at Otterbein on Saturday. HU has lost four straight, falling to 18-9 overall, 6-4 in the OAC.

GAME ONE: OTT 9-6-1   BERG 1-6-4

Heidelberg opened the scoring in the top of the first. Aidan Corrigan drew a one-out walk and moved to second on a single by Camden Farley. Thomas Sauer reached on an infield single to short, but a mishandled ball allowed Corrigan to score the opening run.

From there, it was all Otterbein. Perhaps boosted by the energy from a pair of pregame ceremonial first pitches, the Cardinals scored twice in the first and the fourth, then added a run in the sixth. Up 5-1, the hosts plated four in the seventh.

Only three of the nine Cardinals runs were earned. Jackson Powers (L, 5-1) fanned three in 6.1 innings of work.

GAME TWO: OTT 15-13-3  BERG 6-8-3

The Big Cardinal Machine continued to find success at the plate, taking an 11-1 lead into the seventh. The lone 'Berg run during this stretch came on a sacrifice fly by Adam McVicker in the third.

In the seventh, Thomas Sauer launched his 10th career home run -- a two-run shot to left. Braedy Limke closed the scoring witn an RBI groundout in the eighth.

Corbin Caplan (L, 5-3) worked 3.1 innings in the loss, striking out three.
